Felony

A felony is any criminal offense that is punishable under Florida laws (or that would be punishable if committed in Florida) by death or imprisonment in a state penitentiary.


Felony charges include, but are not limited to:

  • Aggravated Battery
  • Aggravated Child Abuse
  • Burglary
  • Forgery and Uttering
  • Grand Theft
  • Kidnapping
  • Manslaughter
  • Murder
  • Sexual Battery
  • Worthless Checks

Felony Classification

Felonies are classified for purposes of sentencing into the following categories:

  1. Capital Felony
  2. Felony of the First Degree
  3. Felony of the Second Degree
  4. Felony of the Third Degree
  5. Life Felony
