Citrus County Clerks of Court trained and certified Dementia Friendly
Citrus County Clerk of Courts and Comptroller Angela Vick has initiated training to certify her front-line staff as dementia friendly. The training took place in April under the direction of Coping with Dementia LLC, an Inverness-based company that promotes Alzheimer’s awareness and trains caregivers and other individuals in techniques for better understanding and communicating with individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
Clerk Vick explains, “In a county where a third of our citizens are over the age of 65, it is important that we be sensitive to the special needs of those who may be living with memory disorders, as well as their caregivers. For this reason, we have initiated training to achieve this special and higher level of customer service among our staff who deal with the public on a daily basis.”
Citrus has earned a reputation as a county that is friendly and supportive of its estimated 6,500 individuals living with dementia. In addition to the clerk of court, all library system staff, approximately 20 businesses, and more than 30 churches have been trained and certified Dementia Friendly.
