What is the cost of a permit?: The application filing fee is $110.60 payable to the Clerk of Courts. A separate money order for $24 is required for processing and is to be made payable to FDLE. A $10 Livescan fee to the Sheriff's Office for the electronic fingerprint processing will also be required.

1. Who must carry a permit?: Florida Statutes Chapter 501: Consumer Protection addresses Home Solicitation and states that it is unlawful for any person to conduct any home solicitation sale, in this state without first obtaining a valid home solicitation sale permit as provided in this section. (F.S 501.022) If you intend to sell a product or service door-to-door in Citrus County, you may need to apply for this permit.

2. What do I need to apply?: You must appear in person and complete an application for the permit. All information must be completed on the form and sworn to before a deputy clerk with valid photo identification (driver's license or state-issued photo ID). Upon filing the application, the applicant's picture will be taken. You will be given a fingerprint card and a copy of your application which must be taken to the Sheriff's Department for processing.

4. Will I be notified of the results of my background check?: Once the clerk receives the results of the fingerprint analysis you will be notified by certified mail of the results. If approved you must come into the office to sign and receive your permit.

Results for Fingerprint processing can take up to 4 weeks.

5. What else do I need to know?: Florida Law requires that "every home solicitation sale shall be evidenced by written agreement" as stated in F.S. 501.031. Please consult the law section of your local library or visit MyFlorida.com.

6. For what reason may a permit be denied, revoked or suspended?: If it is determined that an applicant or permit holder has:
- Been convicted of or entered a plea of guilty or nolo contendere in certain crimes.
- Has obtained a permit by fraud, false statement, misrepresentation, or failure to truthfully answer any question in the required permit application.
- Failed to obtain required municipal occupational licenses or has failed in any material respect to comply with the provisions of F.S. 501.201 to 501.055.
